Homoerotic Netsuke & Okimono: Archives

Netsuke: In modern day, netsuke are generally created and collected for ornamental purposes. Originally, netsuke was intended to serve both functional and aesthetic purposes. Since kimonos had no pockets, netsuke were used as  toggles to secure items such as tobacco pouches, writing implements, or pipes on a silk cord from the sash of the kimono.
Okimono: Small carvings without the obvious cord-holes are known as okimono, and are intended as ornaments for display.
